Beyond Non-deterministic Connections Version B, Post-digital installation, 2015

is a sculptural network of Bayonet Neill-Concelman (BNC) tee connectors and a two-channel video installation. Serving as a monumental analog video mixer, BNC B is also a statement and metaphor for global connectedness. With its sharp 90 degree angles its structure developed out of the aesthetics of L-systems, a class of generative algorithms that have widely been used in the modelling of plants and recursive processes and are representative for the governance of algorithms and data today.

Martin Reiche is a media artist living and working in Berlin, Germany, and is regularly presenting on professional computer science and digital art and gaming conferences. His artistic work has been shown at numerous festivals and museums around the world.

Jury’s decision in II Open Call for EX Experimental New Media Art Prize

The Jury for the II Open Call for EX Experimental New Media Art Prize announce their verdict as follows:

The Jury, consisting of Nilo Casares, Jaime Lavagne and Arturo Moya Villén, in order to pass judgement on the II EX Experimental New Media Art Prize, held a meeting at five p.m. on the 19^th of January 2016 and, after a long deliberation, decided to

BESTOW

the First EX Experimental New Media Art Prize, worth a thousand euros, to the piece BNC B by Martin Reiche (Germany), both for its artistic quality and for an extraordinary synaesthesia that offers the video-work’s visual experience as a journey into the inner depths and wiring on which every digital work depends –to the extent that they would not exist without such wiring– and for displaying a digital transparency that only works within this art dare to showcase, allowing us to see what they are made of, yet not how they have been implemented.

The Second EX Prize allocates one of the Just Residence artist-in-residence programs, organized by JustMAD, to the piece Blowjob (400 milisegundos) by José Sánchez (Spain) for developing an interplay that, albeit plainly presented, maintains its complexity, transforming the ordinary action of blowing into a surreal experience in which our gaze becomes our lips. With this second piece, in the II Edition of these Awards we want to emphasise deceit and illusion as being core elements in contemporary art, suggesting how emerging technologies can aid us through different paths to new magical places.

Fallo del Jurado de la II Convocatoria y Premio EX de arte electrónico experimental

El jurado, formado por Nilo Casares, Jaime Lavagne y Arturo Moya Villén, para fallar el

II Premio EX de arte electrónico experimental

se reúne en línea a las diecisiete horas del 19 de enero de 2016 para, después de una larga deliberación:

OTORGAR

el Primer premio EX de arte electrónico experimental, dotado con mil euros, a la obra BNC B de Martin Reiche (Alemania), tanto por su calidad artística cuanto por una extraordinaria sinestesia que permite trasladar la experiencia visual de la obra videográfica a las tripas y cableado del que todas las obras digitales dependen, al extremo de que sin ese cableado no son, en una prueba de transparencia digital que solo las obras de este arte último se atreven a mostrar, para que veamos con qué están hechas sin adivinar del todo cómo están resueltas.

El Segundo premio EX destina una de las residencias artísticas Just Residence, organizadas por JustMAD, a la obra Blowjob (400 milisegundos) de José Sánchez (España); por resolver un juego que, a fuer de sencillo, no lo exime de dificultad, y traslada la realidad de soplar al lugar irreal de nuestra mirada hecha labios. Con esta segunda obra los premios de esta edición insisten en el trampantojo y el espejismo como lugar común en el arte de hoy, para destacar que las nuevas tecnologías pueden resultar otro camino hacia lo mágico.
